Expanding Pivot Pins for Worn Lug Bores

Ground pins and one-piece slotted sleeves are made to your drawing for worn joints, with installation possible without line boring in suitable applications.

How it works

Four short steps show how tightening creates controlled sleeve expansion in the worn joint.

  1. The worn lug bore loses its pin fit and joint play increases.
  2. The ground tapered pin and one-piece slotted sleeves are inserted.
  3. Tightening the end hardware moves each sleeve along the taper.
  4. The sleeves expand and seat in the bore; suitable joints need no line boring or welding.

expanding pivot pin manufacturer

As an expanding pivot pin manufacturer, we produce custom expanding pins for a worn lug bore from the customer’s approved drawing. A ground tapered pin moves through one-piece slotted sleeves; tightening the end hardware drives each sleeve along the taper and seats its straight outside diameter against the bore. The arrangement can remove play without line boring when the measured wear, loads and joint geometry are suitable. Excavator, wheel loader and mining loader pivot pins are reviewed as application-specific parts, not catalogue items. Diameter, length, sleeve travel, material, hardness, surface finish and acceptance dimensions are fixed on the drawing before production.

Where it is used

The system is considered for moving, highly loaded joints where restoring the bore by on-machine work would create long downtime. Each position still needs measured bores and a drawing review.

  • ✓Excavators: boom, arm and bucket linkage
  • ✓Wheel loaders
  • ✓Underground mining loaders
  • ✓Cranes and material handlers
  • ✓Forestry and agricultural machines

What to send for a quote

Measure the worn lug bore in two directions rather than reporting one nominal diameter. These readings let us review the sleeve geometry and define the expansion range on the drawing.

  • ✓Lug bore diameters measured at 0° and 90° on both ears
  • ✓Lug spacing and total pin length
  • ✓Machine model and joint position
  • ✓Required material, hardness and coating
  • ✓Quantity

Lead times and delivery to Europe

Lead time starts after drawing approval and material confirmation. The figures below are planning ranges; final timing is confirmed with diameter, length, heat treatment, coating and quantity.

  • ✓Prototype or small batch, medium sizes: 2–4 weeks
  • ✓Large or long pins: 4–8 weeks
  • ✓Heat treatment or coating: +1 week
  • ✓Road freight to Europe: 3–6 days

FAQ

Expanding pivot pin questions

Can expanding pins avoid line boring?

Yes, in suitable joints. The sleeves can seat in a worn lug bore with no line boring, but the decision depends on 0°/90° measurements on both ears, load and joint geometry.

How much wear can the sleeves take?

There is no universal value. Capacity depends on sleeve design and is defined on the drawing from the measured worn lug bore diameters.

Which machines use these pins?

Typical applications include excavator boom, arm and bucket linkage; wheel loaders; underground mining loaders; cranes, material handlers, forestry and agricultural machines.

Which materials and hardness options are available?

42CrMo4 and 34CrNiMo6 can be quenched and tempered or induction hardened; 8620 and 20NiCrMo2-2 can be case hardened. Target hardness is drawing-defined.

Can you make pins up to 4 m long?

Yes. Pins from Ø30–500 mm and up to 4000 mm long can be produced after drawing review confirms weight, straightness, grinding and heat-treatment feasibility.

Do you supply sleeves and pins as replacement sets?

Yes. The pin, matched slotted sleeves and drawing-defined end hardware can be supplied together as a revision-controlled replacement set for repeat orders.
