pin and bushing manufacturing
Pins and bushings are often critical mating components. Material selection, hardness depth, grinding allowance, lubrication details and the final inspection plan are reviewed together from the drawing before quotation.
When geometry and service conditions are defined on the drawing, a manufacturing route can be prepared for non-standard pins and bushings, matched component sets and custom connection geometries.
✓Cylindrical, stepped, shouldered, headed or threaded pins
✓Locating, hinge, pivot and equipment connection pins
✓Cylindrical, flanged, stepped and lubrication-groove bushings
✓Custom parts with cross holes, grooves, flats and locking features
Manufacturing route from drawing to final inspection
A typical route includes technical review, material sourcing, rough turning and bore operations, heat treatment where required, finish machining or grinding, surface treatment and final inspection. The exact sequence is determined from component geometry and specification.
Material and heat-treatment selection
Steels such as C45/C45E, 42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, 20MnCr5 and 17CrNiMo6, together with suitable stainless and tool steels, can be reviewed against the drawing. Selection is confirmed from load, impact, wear, corrosion, weldability and target hardness.
✓Quench and temper, case hardening, induction hardening and nitriding
✓Requirements up to approximately 65 HRC are subject to drawing and process review
✓Hardness depth, core properties and test method should be defined in the specification
Fits, tolerances and surface finish
For a pin-bushing pair, clearance or interference, operating temperature, lubrication and load conditions should be considered together. H7, h6 or other fit classes are applied only when specified on the drawing; feasibility depends on diameter, length, material, heat treatment and inspection method.
✓Critical diameters, concentricity, runout and perpendicularity
✓Ra/Rz surface requirements and grinding direction
✓Lubrication grooves, grease holes, chamfers and edge conditions
✓Effect of coating or grinding allowance on dimensions
Grinding, coating and finishing
Post-heat-treatment dimensional change and coating thickness can affect critical fits. Cylindrical or internal grinding, hard chrome, zinc plating, black oxide and other suitable finishes can be coordinated within the manufacturing plan when masking areas and final inspection methods are defined.
Typical applications
Custom pins and bushings are used in heavy-equipment joints, hydraulic systems, agricultural machinery, industrial automation and general machinery to guide motion, carry load, align components or provide a replaceable wear surface.
Inspection and documentation
Inspection scope is agreed before the order. For suitable projects, an EN 10204 3.1 material certificate, dimensional report, hardness or heat-treatment record and coating certificate can be included in the agreed documentation package.

Which files are needed for a pin and bushing quotation?
Send a PDF drawing and, where available, STEP/STP together with quantity, material, critical fits, hardness, surface requirements and destination country.
Can hardened and ground pins or bushings be supplied?
Yes. Subject to drawing and process review, heat treatment, hard machining and grinding can be coordinated within the manufacturing plan. Target hardness, hardness depth and final dimensional requirements are confirmed before quotation.
Are prototype and repeat-production orders supported?
Suitability is reviewed from the drawing, quantity and available capacity. When moving from prototype to low volume and repeat series, the drawing revision and inspection plan are maintained.
Can material and heat-treatment certificates be supplied?
EN 10204 3.1 material certificates and agreed heat-treatment, hardness or coating records can be supplied when requested and confirmed at the quotation stage.
