CNC milling service

We translate the datums, bores, pockets, threads and surface requirements on your drawing into one manufacturing and inspection plan. The route uses 3-axis milling up to 1200 × 800 × 800 mm, 4+1 axis indexing up to 1200 × 800 mm, simultaneous 5-axis machining up to Ø600 × 500 mm and a horizontal boring mill for large prismatic parts. Typical tolerance is ±0.02 mm; ground surfaces reach Ra 0.4 µm. Final scope is confirmed on your drawing.

3-axis vs 4+1 vs simultaneous 5-axis CNC milling explained

Animation: 3-axis milling machines the top face only; 4+1 axis indexing turns the part 90° so every face is machined in one setup; simultaneous 5-axis tilts and rotates the table while cutting complex surfaces in one continuous path.

  1. 3-axis The tool moves in X, Y, Z and clears the pocket layer by layer; other faces need a new setup.
  2. 4+1 axis The part indexes 90° on the A axis and all four faces are machined in the same setup.
  3. Simultaneous 5-axis B and C move together during the cut while a ball-nose tool finishes the dome in one setup.

  • 1200 × 800 mm 4+1 axis
  • Ø600 × 500 mm simultaneous 5-axis

FAQ

CNC milling questions

What is the difference between 3-axis, 4+1 axis and simultaneous 5-axis milling?

3-axis milling moves the tool in X, Y and Z and reaches one face per setup. 4+1 axis adds a rotary axis that indexes the part, for example by 90°, between cuts so several faces are machined in one setup; simultaneous 5-axis moves two rotary axes during the cut for complex surfaces and undercuts in one setup. Our capacities are 1200 × 800 × 800 mm for 3-axis, 1200 × 800 mm for 4+1 axis and Ø600 × 500 mm for 5-axis.

What is the maximum CNC milling part size?

3-axis machining centres handle parts up to 1200 × 800 × 800 mm. Large prismatic parts and bores are machined on a horizontal boring mill.

What tolerances and finishes do you hold?

Typical tolerance on milled features is ±0.02 mm. Grinding produces selected surfaces down to Ra 0.4 µm.

When is 5-axis used instead of 3-axis milling?

Simultaneous 5-axis machining up to Ø600 × 500 mm is used when complex geometry requires continuous tool orientation. If the faces can be reached at fixed angles, 3+2 or 4+1 axis indexing up to 1200 × 800 mm is often sufficient and more economical.

Do you supply aluminium parts with anodising?

Yes. EN AW-6082 and 7075 aluminium parts are milled and supplied with anodising. Every shipment includes an inspection report and material certificate.
